Jochem Mestriner

Jochem Mestriner (1998) lives and works in Rotterdam. In 2021 he was granted the Dooyewaard residence stipendium award and in 2022 The Sluijters Prijs voor jong talent in de schilderkunst. His work can be found at the Lakeside Collection in the Boijmans van Beuningen Depot and in various private collections.

Inherently paradigms shift and change, and what they leave behind bears culture and carries meaning. Remnants of what used to be truth, no longer sustainable as a dominant body, become redundant, rejected and overruled. Where truth becomes redundant, however, it opens up a grey space wherein multiple viewpoints coexist, and in overlapping the other, clearing way for imagination, mysticism, magic and poetry.  It is the deep historical interrelationship between art, philosophy and science that I am interested in.
