Mazen Al Ashkar

I work through multiple fields creating sound, images and words and use other media and materials to make objects, videos and installations. I also make and perform musical or nonmusical sounds.
I’ve been interested in looking at the functions given to natural and constructed elements in metaphysical narratives such as idealism and materialism; having the power to shape interactions and connectivity in/with reality. I see the space art practices offer as a threshold to access potentials of communication across the different narratives via form, composition and improvisation.

Exhibited in Damascus, Sharjah, Dubai, Amsterdam, Brussels, Amman, The Hague and Utrecht. Graduated from Master Artistic Research at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague in 2021 and from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University in 2013.
